Learn more about the Black and Tan Coonhound.
Meet Andy, he’s a super affectionate and goofy 50 pound hound dog with a medium energy level. He can chill lazily next to his human on the couch for hours, but he also has a blast fetching tennis balls and playing with squeaky toys and tug toys. He does need supervision because he is still learning what items are dog toys and what items are off limits. Andy enjoys leisurely walks and does well on a leash- he does tend to stop and smell the roses, and the squirrels, and the bunnies, and.... He’s fully crate trained and will sleep all night in his crate without making a peep. He is generally a very quiet boy in the house, though he can talk like any good hound when excited. He loves all people and is looking to be a loyal companion to someone willing to help him become the amazing dog he is destined to be. He would love to have human siblings, but older children are recommended because while he is gentle around people, he doesn’t realize his size and could easily knock over a small child. Andy can be on the dominant side with other dogs and would do best as the only dog. NO CATS or other small critters for this guy. Andy was left to starve in his previous life so he can be protective of his food and he should be fed alone. He is HIGHLY treat motivated, responds to verbal praise, and is working hard on housebreaking and following commands like “sit” and “leave it.” When indoors, he will use pee pads and tolerates a belly band well. He will thrive with a consistent and positive approach as he continues to learn his house manners.
