Learn more about the Saint Bernard.
Meet Velveeta! Along with her brother she came from poor conditions. They both was found abandoned and in bad shape by a local sheriff in a downtown area. Their hair was in such bad shape that they had to be shaved, and they were under weight. Velveeta definitely loves her daily grooming. She would do best in a home with a 6ft high fence, teenage children, and provably only pets( but ok with medium size dogs)! They’re not good with small, including but not limited to small dogs and cats. She is big and can knock down small children. Velveeta is house trained; she will go to the door and let you know. She can pull hard when walking on a leash. If walked, she would need someone who can handle her strength while she continues to learn her leash manners to ensure they do not pull away. Velveeta does suffer from anxiety and does not do well in a crate will chew through. Does well alone in the house roaming. She’s very compassionate and loves her cuddles. She thinks she way smaller than she is! We would not recommend food left on the tables or counters; because of her size, she will just walk up and take it, but we are working on her manners. Also house trash does need to be out of reach for miss velveeta. She does seem to be suffering from anxiety and would need an adopter that is home most of the time and someone with extra large breed dog experience. She really needs someone who understands that she is a rescue, someone with patience while they learn she is safe and can trust not to be abandoned again. She is more trusting of females but will warm up to men if given the chance. She truly loves to snuggle and love on you if you will give her that chance. And she loves giving daily handshakes. If you're interested, our first step in the adoption process is to submit an online application from our website. www.dashanimalrescue.org Velveeta's companion, Cletus (adopted) can also be seen on our website.
